Online CPD & Resources

A hassle-free solution for your Maths CPD
We all know how important CPD is to your teaching.  You want to get new ideas and find out about the latest thinking so you can help your kids.  But let's face it, getting quality CPD can seem more hassle than it is worth with a lot more stress involved than there should be.  After the last few years of Covid, we all also know the benefits of online CPD as a way to get some inspiration without leaving your laptop.

My aim is to build up a library of online CPD Maths courses for teachers who want to add some oomph into their maths lessons.  Packed with videos and downloadable resources so you can feel confident and prepared with all the resources you need to hit the ground running.

CPD should make your job easier without making your life harder.  The courses will be ready for you to watch whenever and wherever you want (even if that's in bed with tea and biscuits!)

Maths resources ready at the click of a button
The key benefit of online resources is the quality, quantity and variety I can provide here.  My resources are a combination of editable word documents, PDF's, short videos and ready-to-use or adapt PowerPoint presentations.  This means I can create something which you can use straight away in your classroom but also gives you the freedom to change them up to suit your kids.

Also if you are anything like me, it is always handy to have a digital version you can download again when you can't remember where you put it!  This is all available through your log-in so you can access it from home or school, as many times as you need.

Mental Maths

I have decided to start with mental maths as I believe it is at the heart of everything and can be a big stumbling block that stops many kids from moving forward.  It is also an area where I've found many teachers do not feel confident in teaching.  It is complex topic as it requires a progression of skills that needs to be taught, maintained, developed and applied in many topics.

As there is such variety in where schools are at, I have split this into 3 key areas so hopefully, one, two or all three will meet your needs.

  • Mental Maths: Developing Strategies and Skills
  • Mental Maths: Activity Bank
  • Mental Maths: Play Together Games

Mental Maths: Developing Strategies and Skills CPD

Mental Maths is one of those things I can't actually remember being taught at school and I don't remember being taught how to teach it.

It can be hard to know where to start and where to go next.  In this course, I will look at the progression of skills throughout the key topics of place value, addition & subtraction, and multiplication & division.  We will also look at how they can be applied in other topics e.g. fractions.

We will explore how to review, introduce, encourage and develop strategies in the classroom.  Whether we agree with it or not, evidence gathering is an important feature of teaching these days so we will look at some different ways to assess and gather data.

This course will build your own maths skills as well your teaching knowledge.  There will probably be at least one strategy where you will be shouting at the screen, "Why didn't I learn this years ago?!?"

Includes:  Teacher CPD videos, teaching resources, planning documents.

Mental Maths: Activity Bank

This is a mega-collection of classroom activities you can use straight away with your kids.  It features hundreds of ideas that are low-prep, high fun and quick to implement.  Every activity includes the resources you need to get going straight away with teacher notes, planning guides, classroom resources and more.

Think quick, whole-class starter/warm-up style activities where the kids show you an answer or talk to a partner.  Some are collaborative, some competitive, some individual or pairs then discuss as a whole class.

Great as a starter, an assessment task, a plenary or just to purposefully fill 5 spare minutes you might have before lunch.  There are suggestions of how these can be extended into a group task too so you can introduce it to the whole class then have them repeat it in a station.

We will explore the practicalities of what this looks like in the classroom with all the pitfalls and ways to set yourself up for success.  There are planning documents included to make it super easy to organise your week or topic.

I have kept the ideas simple but effective, meaning you do not need lots of resources or time to set them up.  They can be used, adapted and re-used for a range of different topics to save you time and stress but also build confidence in the kids as they revisit the activities and make connections.

Includes: Classroom Powerpoint slides, printable resources, planning documents, teacher's guide.

Mental Maths: Play Together Games

This is a resource that I desperately wish I'd had when I was teaching!!  Ready-to-print, ready-to-play maths games for pairs of kids.  They focus on practice and recall of key number facts so the kids can build their fluency without being bored to death with worksheets.

No complicated materials and resources are needed as they use the absolutes basics you will have in your classroom or things that are super cheap and easy to get (e.g. dice, counters, paperclips playing cards).  The games can be used in plastic pockets with drywipe pens so they will not eat up your photocopying limits as you can re-use them many times.

I have also created PowerPoint slides that demonstrate how to play the game.  This means you can teach it to the whole class at the start of the lesson to avoid any struggles in interpreting the instructions.

Ideal for use within your lessons, as extension and challenge tasks,  early finishers, revision of topics, homework... the possibilities are endless.  Many can be adapted and differentiated to meet the needs of your kids.  There is also a range of templates and resources for you or the kids to create your own games which are similar to or inspired by the examples.

There is also a book of support resources to help the kids work out and check their answers as they play, e.g. number lines and tracks, 100 squares, multiplication squares, and answer charts.

Includes:  Printable game boards, Powerpoint demonstration slides, templates for creating games, pupil support materials and a teacher's guide.
